In 2011 Rukeya was successfully accredited as a Senior (Level 2) caseworker under the Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme which allowed Rukeya to deal with legal aid cases in Immigration and Asylum. She now plays a significant role in the legal aid department and has assisted in the cases of R (Chapti and Others) v SSHD [2011] EWHC 3370 (Admin); [2011] All ER (D) 135 (Dec) which is now being appealed to the Court of Appeal and due to be heard in November and also the case of MM, JAVED v SSHD (CO/7031/2012,CO/6529/2012) which is a test case listed for hearing 16 October 2012 challenging the Government’s implementation of the minimum financial requirement of £18’600 for spousal entry clearance to the UK.

In February 2012 Rukeya qualified as a solicitor specialising in Human Rights, Immigration (both Legal Aid and Private) and Public Law.

Rukeya is also part of the Early Legal Advice Pilot (ELAP) which allocates representatives to new asylum claims and assist clients from the earliest stages of the asylum process.   Only certain firms can undertake work on these cases and   Rukeya attends regular updates and group sessions under ELAP and is the firm’s representative on the Pilot.
