Broadway Raiders U13 have remained unbeaten since September, scoring over 100 goals in the process, securing a place in the cup final and putting themselves firmly at the top of the league.
All good things must come to an end though, and this weekend they crashed out of the Warwickshire Open Cup in a nail-biting 2-1 loss to Leafield Athletic. Leafield themselves have won every game this season and sit comfortably at the top of their own division. One team had to lose though. Broadway started the brighter and got the opening goal through Yassir after only a couple of minutes, whilst Leafield put us under pressure before half time, eventually getting a goal as their reward just before half time.
Broadway were the stronger team in the second half, hitting the woodwork twice and forcing the Leafield goalkeeper into two fantastic saves. The game looked destined for extra time, with neither team quite able to break the deadlock. To Broadway’s dismay, Leafield were given a dubious penalty with just thirty seconds remaining!
The striker placed the ball in the bottom corner and Broadway were condemned to their first competitive loss since February 2017! The team will now look forward to finishing the league strongly and claiming the title, whilst keeping one eye on their cup final against North Birmingham Celtic.
We wish them the best of luck in their next game
